Fly me to the moon…or the Himalayas, I’m easy

March 21, 2010

The clever peeps at Flype have developed my new favourite toy.  Flype is a fantastic new app for your iphone that allows you to use the compass and tilt functionality of your phone to control/fly a plane over a 3d realised version of google earth. And for those of you who don’t have an iphone you can use the impressive pooter version called Earthglider. Hours of fun and the future of gaming. Gutter tech at it’s best.

Making the unbreakable, breakable

January 18, 2010

At this year’s CES a BBC reporter demonstrates the amazing qualities of the first “unbreakable” mobile phone…it breaks. Nice work here.

If you don’t know what CES is, it’s basically where all the latest technological advancements in phones, tv, media are unveiled. More here.

Is it an i-phone? No it’s Apple tablet, a giant i-phone

January 7, 2010

The highly anticipated Apple tablet is set to get a release date announcement on January 26th. The oversized I-phone will feature a 10.1 screen and enough power to run all your app’s and video software, but it will have a battery life of only 10 minutes (my guess). Not sure where this is supposed to fit into your product usage, but no doubt it will be success and everyone will want one.

Roman wasn’t built in a day

January 6, 2010

Probably one of the most stunning pieces of 3d and cgi you have ever seen. Watch it and then consider this, the whole thing is totally built pixel by pixel by Alex Roman a one-man cgi master. Yep, the whole thing is artificial and if you don’t believe me watch the making of film below.

Admittedly the film is no script writing masterclass, but neither is Avatar and look how much that has made at the box office. Wow.

Don’t Panic it’s only a film.

November 15, 2009

Panic Attack! or Ataque de Pánico! if you are from The Spanish, is a spectacular 5 min short film by Uraguayan director Fede Alvez, He shot the live action in 2006 but it has taken him over two years to finalize the effects shots. And it has clearly been time well spent as the final film looks incredible. The film see’s transformer like robot’s invading Montevideo and blowing the crap out of the city, which in my opinion is the best thing that could happen to the place. I only wish this film was for real.

More gossip about the film here.

It’s life Jim but not as we know it

moon stuff

Hellofromearth.net is collecting messages that will be transmitted to Gliese 581d, a planet outside our Solar System which may support life.

You’ve got until the 24th AUGUST to get your message sent in, approved, converted to binary code and then beamed into space via Nasa’a propulsion laboratory . This of course all relies on Alien’s being able to receive binary code and then decipher it.

But what the heck, it’s a bit if fun and you get amusing posting messages like the following.

One day I’m gonna publish a magazine

August 13, 2009

magazine

If you’ve ever thought “Why isn’t there a magazine for nude night gardening?” or you’re worried about the decline in printed media (Dan C&R). Well my friend you can now sleep easy. Because the clever people at Magcloud have come up with a genius idea. You design the magazine, send it to Magcloud and as people order your item, they print it and send it out. No minimum orders no wasted paper. Just a brilliant idea.

Printed fun here.
