Empire state of mind

September 19, 2010

Colin Hesterly is a very talented individual who will definitely go places if his work to date is anything to go by. Still studying in The Florida his work ranges from animation, motion graphics to photography. He’s got a cinematic eye and there’s a real commercial flavour to all his work.

Nice stuff here.

Scott Pilgrim vs the trailer

August 24, 2010

Nice idea to promote the latest Edgar Wright movie Scott Pilgrim vs the world. I’m not sure you learn anything more about the film than you would from a conventional trailer, but it feels in keeping with the movie premise and made me play along and interact. Which is more than half the battle. Nice here.

Star wars Uncut

August 20, 2010

Star Wars Uncut is the brainchild of Casey Pugh, a developer dedicated to creating new and fun experiences on the web.

Working as a developer at Vimeo, Casey became interested in using the internet as a tool for crowdsourcing user content.

Star Wars Uncut is the product of 2 years of hard work for Casey who wanted to test the appetite for creating a crowd sourced movie.

Rather than create a film from scratch Casey broke the first Star Wars film down into 15 second segments and asked the general public to make their own favourite segment of the  film. The results are in and the final edit is now available to view online.

If you love Be kind Rewind you’ll love this. Very lo-fi but none the less entertaining.

The city that never sleeps

August 20, 2010

They say New York never sleeps, but where else in the world would someone race across town at 5am at 100mph all for a bit of romance -Paris of course.  C’etait un Rendez-vous is a film by Claude Lelouch’s made in 1976 and translates as ‘It was a date’. The ending may be a bit cheesy, but if you ever wanted to race across a cities empty streets you’ll forgive it. Put your headphones on, turn up the sound and enjoy.

Pole dancing

August 19, 2010

In the India, pole dancing championships means something very different to what you and I would  imagine. Gone are sexy women or half drunk flabby girls in clubs and in come agile men who perform sublime athletic moves.

The guy 1:40 in is genuinely incredible.

Pixarrrrr

August 19, 2010

Pixar are renowned for making fantastic, human interest full length animation films. And preceding a Pixar film has always been a short movie, often showcasing the latest visual techniques Pixar have developed or characters they want to introduce us to.

Before Toy Story 3 filled the screen and made me want to cry, we were shown the amazing little film called Day & Night ( and no before you ask it’s not the Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz debacle) in fact this was a sweet tale of two characters that find love and friendship. Typically Pixar, beautifully made.

Check it out here.

If like me, you enjoy a good bit of stationery. Then you’ll love the work of Jung Von Matt Ag to promote the mobile phone horror flick 13th street. You’ve got to see the letter tear. Gory stuff here.

What’s your secret?

April 28, 2010

50 people one question is a fantastic website/video project where the creators have gone out onto the streets of New York and asked 50 people one simple question (funny that) What’s your secret?

Boring, I hear you say, but the results are strangely intriguing and mesmerizing. The answers range from the ridiculous to the heartfelt and scary the end result makes for compelling viewing. Check out the master film and the four other they have created here.
